Violet Joyce Schaefer, 87, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and friend to all that met her was called home to her Heavenly reward on Dec. 21, 2021.

Violet was born to August Louis Rummel and Esther Theresia Schoppa Rummel on May 4, 1934, in a small farmhouse in Thalia, Texas. She grew up on a cotton farm with her parents and sisters, Doris Jean and Faith Lavoy. The girls all attended Northside Elementary and Crowell High School. While in high school Violet “Vi” to her friends excelled, not only in the classroom but was also a twirler in the band, a varsity volleyball player and she won the title of Ms. Crowell at the age of 15. Her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes let everyone know she was a beauty queen all of her life.

Vi retired at the age of 80 after 31 years with Azle ISD as the high school receptionist. Her quick wit, charm and candor made her a natural to be in control of the school’s “Nerve Center”. She knew the answer to everyone’s question and would often throw in a joke and her two cents along with it. Superintendents and principals alike often asked “What does Vi think?” before making big decisions.

Vi was a very talented lady in many ways. Her perhaps biggest and most overlooked talent was in the kitchen. She could make delicious meals from almost nothing. To elaborate dishes suited for royalty. If she had ever printed and sold her recipes, she would have been a millionaire.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; sister; ex-husband, James Ray Bice; son, Monty Ray Bice; and grandson, Conrad Lee Bice.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard Nicholas Schaefer; sister Lavoy Bivens children, Brenda Bice Riley and husband, Kim, Treva Bice Kilcoyne, Jeff and Kim Schaefer, Julie Schaefer, Koan and Sherry Bice, Darren and Helen Schaefer and Dawn and Railton Elliott; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
