Two tough foes led to a pair of losses for the Lady Hornet volleyball team.

But the “games that matter” loom on the horizon – district play.

After falling at home to Boyd and on the road in Crowley, Azle (4-15) will host its first two 7-5A matches, against Birdville Fri., Sept. 7 and Saginaw, Tues. Sept. 11.

Birdville is one of the best teams in Texas and is ranked No. 2 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

The district’s other state-ranked team is Boswell at No. 13.

The Lady Hornets will play four of its first six district matches in the AHS gym.

The top four finishers in 7-5A will advance to the postseason.
