Gene Hal Hargrove, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away Monday, August 23, 2021.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born February 25, 1937 in Lubbock to Horace and Mary Hargrove. He graduated from Merkel High School; McMurry College in Abilene, after attending on a football scholarship, graduating with a Master of Education degree. Gene served in the United States Naval Reserve.

He married Janet Hall, July 11, 1959, and began a coaching career that took them to Cisco, Hamilton, Amarillo, Andrews and Azle. After leaving coaching, he went into school administration, first as Athletic Director in Azle, then as Vice-principal in Azle High School, and then to Azle Elementary (the Rock School) as Principal. After leaving education for a brief time, he returned to serve as Vice-Principal for Lake Worth High School, completing his career as Principal at Effie Morris Elementary in Lake Worth. Once retired from education, he worked for Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department for 3 years.

Gene was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Azle, Texas Retired Teacher Association and THR Harris Methodist NW Hospital Auxiliary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Larry and Jim.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Janet of Azle; sons, Brent and Randy; daughter, Denise; grandchildren, Sunni, Chase and Kensi Boenker and Jake and Emma Hargrove.
