Dorothy Dunnahoo

Dorothy Dunnahoo passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 13, 2020.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m Wednesday at Ash Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. Wesley Shotwell officiating.

Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery for family and friends.

Dorothy was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Frisco to Cora (Fisher) and Dewey Daniel. On Nov. 9, 1956, she married Herman J. Dunnahoo in Fort Worth, Texas. During their 54 years of marriage, they traveled the U.S. and the world including trips to Canada, Mexico, Germany, Holland, France and Hawaii.

Dorothy owned and operated The Wear House, a dress shop in Azle during the 70’s and 80’s. Before owning her own business, she worked a variety of jobs in Fort Worth, including her first job at 16 years of age working at Montgomery Wards for 32 cents an hour.

Dorothy will be remembered by her family and friends as the strong, hard-working, generous, resilient, fun-loving, matriarch of her family. What filled her heart with pride the most was her family and she always boasted of their accomplishments. She enjoyed hosting friends and family at the home she and Herman built in Azle. She was known for pulling a good practical joke and would do anything for a laugh, even at her own expense. Dorothy loved the Lord and served Him faithfully at Ash Creek Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Herman J Dunnahoo; and her brother, Sonny Daniel.

She is survived by children, Mike Dunnahoo and wife, Terri, Betty Alford and husband, Ray, Jackie Hughes, David Dunnahoo and wife, Denise; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Springfield, Joyce Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
