A violent collision last summer that caused the death of a young Azle woman resulted in the arrest last week of the driver who hit her.
Keith Allen Cordar, 37, was arrested by Azle police on a charge of manslaughter at his home in Boyd Jan. 21, Azle police chief Steve Myers confirmed Wednesday.
Kaci Gorder was killed when the Dodge Neon in which she was a passenger crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup pulling a trailer. The accident occurred July 26, on a Sunday afternoon. Cordar remains in custody in Tarrant County Jail with a $200,000 bond. “(The investigation) did take longer because of the violence of the accident,” Myers said.
“There is no medical evidence of drugs or alcohol involvement,” Myers said. “The charge is based on the reckless nature of his driving.” After investigators collected the evidence and accident scene information, the case was reviewed by the Tarrant County District Attorney, Myers s The warrant was obtained last Wednesday after the DA accepted the case. At the time of the accident, July 26, witnesses described Cordar driving at a high rate of speed traveling south on the Body Highway, passing vehicles on the right. Cordar may have lost control of the vehicle as he passed on the shoulder because one of the tires on the 2000 Dodge Neon, owned by Gorder, was a small-sized spare tire not meant for hard use, Myers said this week. Cordar was also seriously injured in the accident, according to the accident report prepared at the time. |
