A black Kia four-door sedan crashed into the back of a white International “toter” (a cab vehicle that usually hauls a trailer) at the intersection of Boyd Road and Stribling Drive shortly after 11 a.m. last Thursday, Nov. 5.
Hugh Linley Reed, 73, an Azle resident, was driving the sedan, which landed in the Walnut Creek Elementary School parking lot after narrowly missing two areas of parked vehicles on either side of the driveway from Boyd Road into the lot.
No charges were filed. “Following too closely” and “failure to control speed” were listed by police as factors in the collision. Terry Lynn Davey, 43, a passenger in the sedan, was taken by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital. He remained there this week in fair condition. Reed was transported by ambulance to a downtown hospital with “possible injuries,” and the driver of the toter was taken by Azle ambulance to THR Harris Methodist Northwest hospital with “non-incapacitating injuries,” according to the accident report filed by the Azle Police Department.
The impact sent the toter cab zooming past the school on only its front tires, according to witnesses at the scene. The sedan swerved into the parking lot between two rows of parked vehicles. |
