Cool helicopters, honorary plaques and some of the best fried fish in the area highlighted the Reno Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fish fry fundraiser July 25.
Along the way, generous RVFD supporters managed to contribute around $1,546 to be used to buy firefighting equipment.
And some stayed around long enough to help firefighters donate 20 units of blood collected by Carter Blood Center. The 100 or so folks that attended got to sample fresh fish and all the homemade fixings. Then they witnessed Reno Fire Chief Jimmy Boone present longtime Reno firefighter Alvin Pool with a plaque that recognized him as a “lifetime member” of the department. Pool has been with the department for nearly a quarter of a century.
Reno Mayor Roen Cox and councilmembers Billie Steele and Lynda Stokes were along for the festivities. Members of the Mountain River Volunteer Fire Department, including chief Brett Wright and firefighter April McCommas attended to show their support. Assistant Parker County Fire Marshal Joe Washburn was also in attendance. Former Azle Fire Chief Bob Fowler won a raffle for a weedeater. A Fellow Parker County resident won a raffle for a reciprocating saw. CareFlite and PHI helicopter units provided attendees with a close inspection of the machines they use to rush injured people to the hospital. Azle Wal-Mart, David Beard’s restaurant and Long John Silvers restaurant all made donations to the event. “It was one of the best fundraisers we’ve ever had,” Boone |
