A handicapped resident of West 40 Estates near Azle was beaten and robbed, and his protective German Shepherd dog killed, late Monday evening, according to Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler.
Investigators are seeking the public’s help in locating two suspects.
The victim is a disabled man who said two men entered his home about 10:30 p.m. Monday, with weapons. They beat him repeatedly in the head with a pistol, demanding cash, Fowler said. The victim’s assistance-dog, a 12-year-old German Shepherd named Major, was killed with two shots after he attacked the suspects.
A family member who heard the shots came to help and found the men fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash, Fowler said. The two men are described as wearing overalls and pullover masks. One is about 6’2” and one is about 5’9”, both with medium builds. They were driving a blue Chevrolet pickup “with what appear to be white magnetic signs,” and were last seen near Silver Creek Elementary School when they fired shots at a woman who was attempting to follow them from the victim’s home, Fowler said. The woman retreated for her own safety, with a bullet hole on the driver’s side of her vehicle. The man who was beaten in his home received seven staples (stitches) to his injuries. He was not hospitalized. His identity was not released by the sheriff’s office. The suspects are wanted for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call the sheriff’s office immediately at (817) 594-8845. |
